Sworn Interpreters and Translators Act

09-03-2009

The Sworn Interpreters and Translators Act (Wbtv)came into force on 1 January 2009. This means that there is a new register of sworn interpreters and translators (Rbtv). The advantage of using a sworn translator or interpreter who is registered in the Rbtv is that you can be certain that he or she satisfies the competency requirements laid down by the Dutch government. In order to qualify for registration, the translator or interpreter must posses certain educational qualifications and have carried out a minimum number of professional translation/interpreting assignments. The sworn translator and/or interpreter must also have been issued with a Certificate of Good Conduct.
If you work at a court of law, for the police, the Immigration and Naturalisation service, the Royal Netherlands Military Constabulary, the Public Prosecution Service or the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Council of State, you are obliged to use translators and interpreters from the Rbtv.

A large number of Wilkens c.s.’ translators and interpreters are registered in the Rbtv. Please contact one of our account managers for more information.
